Daphne was filled with adrenaline when she saw Makko emerge from the forest alone. She assumed they would have to leave. She would be set free, and Makko would rush off to his military life. A mix of relief and fear washed over her.

"You are safe now." Makko said as he rushed into the cabin and pulled the bonds from Daphne. "Did they hurt you?"

"No." Daphne said, instinctively throwing herself into Makko's arms. She began to cry softly as he held her. He listened to her racing thoughts of what happened and catastrophic thoughts of what might happen.

"You are safe now." Makko repeated as he held Daphne. "Tell me what happened."

"Did you kill them?" Daphne asked pulling away enough so that she could look into Makko's eyes.

"No. I only knocked them out and sent them somewhere else." Makko said reassuringly.

"I don't understand. What do you mean you sent them somewhere else?"

"I have access to technology that you have not seen before. Military stuff. They will not return to our location before we are done with it." Makko said pulling Daphne close to him again. He was taught not to feel, but his biology worked against this.

"O.K." Daphne said unsure of what to make of the situation. She relaxed herself into Makko's arms and tried to believe him.

"Have a seat. I will retrieve our provisions. I left them behind the cabin." Makko said sitting Daphne down in a different chair than the one she had been bound to.

Makko disappeared out of the door, and Daphne's eyes fell on the three backpacks that lay by the door. She wondered what useful things may lay inside them. Makko returned as she pulled items from the packs.

"What are you looking for?" Makko asked as he dropped his bags off on the table.

"They mentioned that they had both whiskey and weed with them. I could definitely use a bit of both." Daphne said digging through Chester's pack. She found a cigar box filled with marijuana and paraphernalia.

"What is that?" Makko asked as he watched Daphne sit at the table with the box and pull out its contents.

"I know army boys are supposed to be straight laced, but I'm sure you have seen weed before." Daphne said to Makko's blank face. "Pot? Marijuana?" Daphne continued without any recognition from Makko.

"It is good for you?" Makko asked with intrigue.

"It is certainly good for this situation." Daphne added as she ground it in Chester's grinder. She had watched Gregory do the same operations hundreds of times. She rarely partook with him, but was generally not under the same amount of stress she was experiencing.

Makko watched as Daphne rolled the marijuana into a joint and lit it. She puffed on the joint and leaned back in the chair. The placebo effect of just holding the joint relaxed her.

"Do you want some?" Daphne said through a cough as she held out the joint to Makko. "It seems to be pretty good stuff."

"Perhaps later. I have more work to do before I think about trying any new substances.
